Effects of Parenting Styles on Children

Parenting styles affect children in different ways, just as children receive parenting styles differently, and thus, it can be hard to predict. Therefore, to better understand how a parenting style may affect a child, one can look at how it approaches the success of its goal.

If a parenting style is hands-off, children will have lots of freedom; allowing them to make their own choices at very early ages. Parents tend to believe that freedom leads to a more satisfying and experienced life.

Strict parenting styles restrict children from making decision until they are older. A lack of trust is given until the parent sees a level of maturity that causes them to relent. Parents attempt to shelter and protect their children from destructive mistakes that will hinder their adult life.

Parenting styles which are not extreme in either direction generally have the most favorable outcomes because a healthy balance can be gained between freedom, discipline, and relationship.
