Bible and Parenting - What does the Bible say about shaping parenting styles?

A few common scriptures parents can look to when shaping their parenting styles are as follows:

Colossians 3:20-21 - "Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged." (see also Ephesians 6:4)

Proverbs 13:24 - "He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him."

Psalm 103:13 - "As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him."

Deuteronomy 6:5-8 - "Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads."

Proverbs 14:26 - "He who fears the LORD has a secure fortress, and for his children it will be a refuge."

Proverbs 20:7 - "The righteous man leads a blameless life; blessed are his children after him."

Isaiah 54:13 - "All your sons will be taught by the LORD, and great will be your children's peace."

Proverbs 19:18 - "Discipline your son, for in that there is hope; do not be a willing party to his death."
